She Devil

It is very seldom that I do a model shoot. Honestly I don’t like doing them at all. I actually find it pretty creepy unless its a paid gig in which I welcome the opportunity. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine one day that made the decision of becoming a feminist. She was explaining to me how she felt in terms of how men see females in business and the art world, a lot of which I disagreed with being a man myself. On the other side of things I felt that she was at least partially right in that some men do deconstruct women down to objects.

Some months later I was asked to do a photoshoot with a friend. Upon learning I would have free reign with the models I decided to make a theme out of it that fit along side of what my friend and I had discussed months before. The theme was the objectification of women as could be seen by some men past and present. I decided to introduce the mask into the shoot that would help to de-humanize the character and boil them down to just the body. This made them more of a haunting figure therefore at least not as defenceless.

Some weeks later after I got the film rolls back and fully developed I showed them to my friend. She actually thanked me for doing it and asked me if she could use the photos I had taken during this shoot. She said she felt sometimes like these women looked. I wasn’t glad that she felt that way but I was at least glad that I could understand how she felt.
