A Walk and a Thought: Reflexions on my personal style
I look out the window from my apartment on a cold sunny day and see the Palazzo della Civiita Italiana . It’s a cold relic from when Italy was governed by the National Fascist Party. Only the many arches make this building interesting, otherwise, it’s just another lack luster piece of Brutalist architecture which was the practice after the 1940s. Nonetheless, the arches and the shadows they cast upon every wall in the building were enough to keep my attention.
I think a lot about what makes a piece of art interesting. I conclude that t’s not unlike the Palazzo you can see from my apartment, it requires an old story (even if it’s one you create yourself), and that aesthetic that keeps it from being totally boring. In my case it’s the use of color and slightly saturated. I’ve all but abandoned black and white photography as a personal preference and aesthetic.
Surreal is what photography is for me. I’m not trying to recreate reality as it is because that’s impossible. I am however trying to recreate what it means for me.
“The Soldiers of Campo Di Fiori”: Birds flock to pickup loose peaces of fish, bread, and other things at this market. They have been here for years, maybe thousands.
“All But Loosing It”: Two gentlemen stand outside of the pizza stand in front of Monte D’Oro. The contrast of generations made abundant.
“Still Life from my Balcony”: Anyone that knows me knows I’m more of a writer than a photographer. I often sit on my balcony and write, conjuring up my universe and building different characters.
“Still Life Sunset in my Apartment”: She was a gift given to me by someone special. Just like that someone… She is still glowing.
“Blue Colors, Red is an After-thought”: Because who uses the colour red as a base?
“E”: The grey and white tiles form the base of the floor.
“Coffee Bar, San Callisto”: Some people say I’m a hipster, that’s why I hang out here. This coffee bar has not raised its prices in the last 50 years. A coffee costs 80 cents.
“Brown Colors in a sea of Grey”: Which is usually the case right?
“View of the Vatican through a Restaurant”: As I write this the Pope has passed away in Rome.
“Eur Palasport”: My hood otherwise known as.
“Discussions over One Thing or Another”: Who knows what the discussion was or the circumstances.
